Ragdolls
Ann Baker, the breed creator, has blessed the cat fancy with the most precious breed of cat, the Ragdoll. Created in the 1960's in sunny California, USA, these cats are large, loving, and laid back. The Ragdoll personality is what drew us to this breed. Some call them "puppy like" or "floppy". We have found both to be so true! They follow us around the house like a dog would, when they are picked up, they seem to just flop in our arms. They think everyone is their friend, so do not let them outside, or it may be harmful. They are easily trained to come to their name as well as fetch and many, many other tricks.
Colors and Patterns
There are the standard colors like Seal (brown), and Blue (greyish). Then there are the other colors like Flame (red), Cream, Tortie (calico), Blue Cream, Chocolate, Lilac. There are lynx points (stripes). The patterns are Bi-Color (inverted "V" on face looking like a mask), Mitted (little mittens on the front paws) and Color Point. All have blue eyes. So as you can see, there is a variety of colors and patterns. Check out our Colors and Patterns page for pictures.
Clubs and Registries
There are clubs specifically for Ragdoll lovers. Clubs like: Ragdoll of America Group (RAG), Ragdoll International (RI), and more. You can check out groups in your local area by asking the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) or The International Cat Association (TICA) for a listing of "all breed" clubs that you can join.
Ragdolls are primarily registered and shown in TICA. The CFA has accepted Ragdolls, but only the Bi-Color pattern is eligible for championship status right now. The mitteds and ColorPoints have advanced into the AOV class, and soon may be eligible to compete for Championship.
